INDIGENOUS WISDOMKEEPER

PORTRAIT COLLECTIVE

When I kindle curiosity deep within, asking of what am I to bring into the world with this one preciously profound life, it is that of midwifing a Great Remembrance:

I want to gift to our future generations and contemporary kin, a doorway into reciprocal relationship with panoramic perspectives and re-sensitizing wisdom narratives of this era; alive ancestral past, restorative vision of future, and their cyclical intersection in our unequivocally transforming present, through a continually commemorative collection of portraits of our living Indigenous Wisdomkeepers and their heart-rendering voices at this moment in time. A first and only collection of such significance and grand implication that I am committed to.

It is one of the most remarkable tributes that can be made at this time; for many generations, humanity has held a patterned domination over Indigenous Peoples and the Sacred Feminine (animas) consciousness and liveways, that are now the antidote to our current anthropocene. But, we cannot move into a new restorative era without the proper, honorable, and wholly healing of that long-existing domination. This is one way; one powerful way using art:

Art as Remembrance

art as tribute

art as awareness

art as reconciliation

art as activism

art as healing

art as resource support

art as unification

art as amplified voice

art as relationship

with our past, our future, and our powerful now

PORTRAIT COLLECTIVE:

-a visual gathering of large-scale portraits of living Indigenous Wisdomkeepers from different cultures globally.

-uniting their portraits as a great collaboration of the many cultures and the regenerative wisdom they behold; each a distinct portal into a unique world of consciousness + lifeways.

-archived in visual art for future and modern generations.

WISDOM AUDIO RECORDINGS

to free and honor the stories that need to be acknowledged for us to collectively move forward:

-stories, songs, current events, lifeways, perspectives, etc.; fertile space for Wisdomkeepers to share their voice with the contemporary and future world.

-a glimpse into their highly interconnective consciousness-- "how they see the world".

-uniting their sovereign voices in a global Indigenous Wisdomkeeper collective.

-archived in recorded audio for future and modern generations.

EXHIBITION VISION:

An audio-visual exhibit that unites the honored cultures of Indigenous Wisdomkeepers from many wisdom-lineages in the world. Through their large-scale portraits, synchronized with lighting and their recorded voices, the audience is guided through a transportation to each of the visual and audio offerings from the Elders.

-a powerful platform and honorable exposure for these Wisdomkeepers and cultures to have a voice and inform more of the western world with their imperative perspectives, leading to action.

-invitations to the Elders to speak and share in person or virtually, to bring their offerings; films, dance + ceremony, creating space for their desires to be shared, etc.

-shown in continuous and multi-geographical exhibitions; an invitation to connect with many evolving communities.

-because of the implications of such a powerfully cultural exhibit, it may merit art museum platforms.

-create space for community discussion; interactivity with the Elders' offerings, bring awareness to the power of us all uniting in our growing wisdom, together.

RECIPROCITY:

This work is a multivalent opportunity to build many bridges of perception, of remembrance, of experience, and of substantial support in the work that reconnects during this time:

-The sale revenue of the original portraits are dedicated to be returned to the Wisdomkeeper and their culture. The price point of the original portraits are marked this way for this purpose of monetary dedication/donation, as well as encompassing the potential vision of this work.

-ample information and invitation will be provided during the exhibitions for community to participate, contribute, and variously support the Indigenous Wisdomkeeper's cultural community current endeavors.

-hold fertile space for gatherings in discussion of integration, implementation, imagination, and other ideas to elicit the voices of community to energize newer systems of being and contemporary-culture lifeways.

-encourage allyship and invoke inspiration for original collaborations of integrity.

POWER OF ART:

In addition to the above mentioned, art has the power to incarnate the future--it is the most all encompassing medium in its freedom for expression, catalyzing a revolution of perception, while also the capacity to play in the revenue-generating art markets to assist financially in restorative change. It welcomes both the esoteric and spiritual, and the political and tangible-action oriented, and more.

-art in exhibition can reach youth through schools and other community groupings, and also online: in person and virtual modalities of connection, both needed for embodied effectuality.

-art is inclusive to all beings--it's power to be understood isn't by select few, like politics and law, for example, but has one of the widest scopes for comprehension, and, there are no wrong answers to someone who may relate and discover their own understanding. Because it doesn't ask to be received in any conformed ways, art is the premiere anti-colonistic way of communicating and inspiring big ideas; those that experience art can and are encouraged to inform, cultivate, and/or transform their own responses within their most original voice. A revolution of perception begets more perspective evolution.

-visual art and the art world that has been built around fine arts, have the ability to keep alive a topic for longer--longer shelf-life, if you will. Unlike film or literature or other categories of expression that may have a showing, viewing, or publication, then be relegated to the bookshelf, the hard drives, or the hidden archives, visual art becomes a fixture in homes; a living and ongoing relationship with its narrative. Furthermore, the art world celebrates ongoing showings, and retro-exhibits with ample opportunities to keep the art and the significant themes they express, in the rotation of contemporary consciousness.

WHY PORTRAITS?

In this current anthropocene, it is that which is creating destruction and disharmony in the world that is the remedy: humans. Humans coming home to their great nature within Nature is the burgeoning restorative narration, embodiment, and expression needing encouragement to support this global metamorphosis; to reroute our collective story. Therefore, the "answer" is us--but not as we've been imposed to believe within the limits of capitalism and patriarchy, but the interconnective ideologies at the basis of this universe, the reflection to who we truly are that the Indigenous Wisdomkeepers hold up. Through them and being receptive to who they are and what they stand for, within the context of this great transformation, we can begin to relate with our own wisdom within; a palpable emergence of a cultivation of being. We begin to consider a new way of being and the possibilities that are engendered and expressed into our world. Through each of us, our world shifts immeasurably in its great evolution.

-mirror to our own inner Wisdomkeeper finding animation and rise at this time.

-a most relatable form of art expression: we all have faces and look out upon our world through this expression and perspective, a direct intimacy with human beingness.

-I paint in the scale and realistic capacity on traditional canvas not only to honor my natural gift of style in expression, but as a tool to gain merit and platform in the more conventional art world; as a generally esteemed style and talent of work that can be efficient in communicating the activism part of this work. It is the respected vehicle to breach conservative realms for the Indigenous Wisdomkeeper narrative to be heard and gain allyship and awareness as one of the most significant topics in our time.

-Traditional style of portraiture and its favor in the art world also has, perhaps, the greater capability to generate revenue in sales; directly returning to the Indigenous Elders and their cultural endeavors, because of its particular appreciation. The pieces can also be replicated, as a practical form in inviting a centering of discussions and presence that generate from the portraits.

<<>>

to honor Earth and her people throughout time that have always recognized Her and tended that relationship

to heal broken stories and trespasses

to honor the irrevocable need for this Earth-revering consciousness to revive by opening our eyes, ears, and hearts to the sacred Wisdomkeepers, which opens spaces within to relearn this intrinsic mother-tongue of interconnection with all, and the world that restoratively changes from this remembrance, together

it's the part of our collective psyche that we've estranged and repressed, and now has to, is ready to find belonging once more: restored relationship with Mother Earth and acknowledgment of her torch-bearers that are lighting this path of Remembrance
